They realized that Uncle Sam will not always be able to help in a timely fashion. With the increase in natural disasters and the civil unrest brewing in the world it has created even more preppers. They were the type who settled this country. Since the need for those kind of people became null and void in theory, we've moved away from that lifestyle.
