Going Off-Grid

Looks like there's about 18 million people in a large urban environment who are about to experience what it's like to suddenly go off-grid, without any degree of preparedness.

Structural Engineer Update

Well, I met with the guy last evening. First thing I noticed when he pulled up and got out was how young he was. I thought, "Do I really want to trust my family's safety to this kid?" But upon reflection, I'm thinking I've just reached that age where there's a substantial number of working individuals who are younger than me. Probably something to start getting used to.

He used lots of words and phrases I didn't understand and was able to explain them to me, which I find to be a good marker for estimating proficiency. He didn't think what we were trying to do was crazy and also seemed to think that it might fit within the projected budget I gave him. He should return a quote here in the next day or two.

If this doesn't work, our "Plan B" is probably going to be to just add on to the cabin. It would be very easy to attach a 32' X 24' building and would probably be about half the cost. Ultimately we'd prefer our underground concrete home for a whole lot of reasons, but we're blessed with the resources right now to be able to expand.

Structural Engineer

As it comes closer to the time to build our main house, I'm getting flakier and flakier about doing it ourself. It will be a concrete structure bermed on 3 walls. That is a LOT of weight hanging above our heads. It's got to be done right.

I'm meeting with a structural engineer here in the next half hour who should give me some more insight into the how, why, and how much. I think that will move us along a little further in this project.

Last Night's Debate

I didn't watch it ... I went out to dinner and ate good catfish.

However, it appears from today's commentary that Romney won. With such a close race right now, this is probably going to mean that Obama is going to lose the coming election.

You should probably prepare for that. These people have committed multiple criminal acts in which lives were lost in order to further their agenda. That type of mindset doesn't step down easily. If they step down at all, it will be because they can't figure out a way to do it by any means necessary.

Next you should consider that Obama is just their front man. He's not a very competent front man either. Apparently when he's stripped of his fawning media and pre-written speeches, he's revealed as neither a fast-thinker, good speaker, or a competent statesman. He's a stooge. What is important is all the hardcore communists who are supporting and propping him up. Where are they going to go? How are we going to purge our government of those who have been inserted in the past four years and will continue to undermine our nation for the next four decades?

And finally, if Obama loses and leaves quietly and without any mess at all Romney takes the reins of power ... what have we gained?

Not a thing. Romney's agenda mirrors Obama's except that Romney has actually been competent enough to get those things passed. Romney is a cultist who believes that God is a space alien and that if he follows the rules closely enough, he will be able to become a God himself and rule his own planet somewhere in our universe.

We're screwed. Whoever wins, we lose.
